Find Dental coverage

Most dental coverage is set up like this:
Preventative Care: This is standard routine dental care. Exams, cleanings, bitewing x-rays, and are all examples preventative services. These services are usually fully covered by the carrier.
Basic Care: These services include fillings, full mouth x-rays, restoratives, composites, simple extractions and sealants. Under the basic care level a deductible of as low as $50 could apply. Once the deductible is met the insurer will usually cover 80% of cost up to the annual maximum of the plan.
Major Care: Under major care services more extensive dental procedures are covered. These services include root canals, crowns, complex extractions, anesthesia, dentures. A deductible may apply to major services if it has not already been met. The coverage amount can vary based on carrier. Typically the plan would cover 50% of major services up to the annual maximum. Some carriers offer buy up options to increase your annual maximum on heavy use years!
Medicare and Dental
- Medicare doesn’t cover most dental care, dental procedures, or supplies, like cleanings, fillings, tooth extractions, dentures, dental plates, or other dental devices.
- A good rule of thumb is if it happens in your dentist chair Medicare won’t cover the cost. Certain complex extraction may require a hospital stay would be partially covered by Medicare.
